St. Paul’s Episcopal Church welcomed the Rt. Rev. R. William Franklin, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York, on Sunday, April 24th during its 10am service.
Bishop Franklin called on St. Paul’s as a part of his annual visitation schedule of parishes throughout the Diocese. During his visit, the Very Rev. Gary Schindler, St. Paul’s Vicar, presented two candidates to Bishop Franklin for confirmation. The service was followed by a celebratory luncheon.
Bishop Franklin was elected to serve the Diocese of Western New York in 2010 and was consecrated as a bishop in 2011. Originally from Brookhaven, Massachusetts, he holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. in Church History from Harvard. He has served the Episcopal Church in a variety of positions in both the US and Europe. He is a former Dean of Berkley Divinity School at Yale, and was a professor at General Theological Seminary and at St. John’s University in Minnesota.
“We look forward to the Bishop’s annual visit.” says Schindler. “It gives us a chance to showcase the wonderful community that we have built here at St. Paul’s and also allows us to feel connected to the greater church in Western New York.”
